Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

Happy Thanksgiving. See everyone next week.

"Old -- yes. Burned-out -- certainly. But I can tell you the memories are still there. Clear ... intact ... indestructible."

This scene, the final 9+ minutes of the movie, always makes me a bit misty. A last glimpse at Spencer Tracy, who passed away 10 days after filming.

When Portier says to Tracy "unless you approve, the wedding is off" he is confirming his love for her to be so great he will not rob her of her loving parents. She can find another husband, but only one father, one mother. Compare that love to divisive sons and daughters-in-laws.
