S.J. Perelman: "My chief interest always was to be a cartoonist."

Happy belated birthday S.J. Perelman born Feb 1, 1904. The renowned comedy writer told a New York Times Magazine interviewer in 1969: "My chief interest always was to be a cartoonist."

“... and I began very early to draw cartoons in my father’s store on the long cardboard strips around which the bolts of Amoskeag cotton and ginghams were stored.”
