Westport Now's James Lomuscio: "Remembering Cartoonist Dick Hodgins, Jr."

(One of the many editorial cartoons Dick Hodgins, Jr. created for the Westport News.)

The Editor and Publisher of Westport Now, Gordon Joseloff, sent me an email letting me know that there was a remembrance of cartoonist Dick Hodgins, Jr. in his paper. My thanks to him and James Lomuscio for the heads up.

As you know, Hodgins died of complications cancer treatments for inoperable lung cancer at his home in Wilton, CT on Sunday, April 3, 2016, his son, Richard Hodgins III told Westport Now. He was 84.

Remembering Cartoonist Dick Hodgins by his friend and editor James Lomuscio captures the man and the times he lived.

"Dick, as he was known, was one of the last of a winnowing cadre of Fairfield County-based cartoonists who daily kept the funny papers filled with gags.
"Their ranks had included the late Leonard Starr who drew 'Annie,' 'Blondie' artist Stan Drake, and 'Hagar the Horrible' creator Dik Browne who upon his death bequeathed the drawing of the loveable Viking marauder to Hodgins."
